Who Bitget is for#
Bitget is a fit if any of these apply:
- You want to try copy trading with the largest selection of lead traders.
- You're interested in futures and perpetuals with competitive fees and clean UX.
- You're in SEA, LATAM, or the Middle East and want an exchange with active local marketing, P2P, and support.
- You appreciate a disclosed Protection Fund ($300M+, tracked on-chain).
- You want a fast-iterating exchange โ Bitget ships product changes frequently.
It's not for you if:
- You're a US resident โ Bitget blocks US users entirely.
- You want US bank-level regulation โ Kraken or Coinbase are stronger fits.
- You only trade spot majors โ fees are equivalent to Bybit/OKX, no specific advantage.
How to open a Bitget account#
The full sign-up takes about 10-15 minutes including identity verification.
- Go to bitget.com โ verify the URL exactly; typosquats are scam vectors (see common crypto scams).
- Click "Sign up", choose email or phone + strong password.
- Verify with the 6-digit code Bitget sends.
- Enable 2FA immediately. Use Google Authenticator or a YubiKey โ not SMS.
- Save your 2FA backup codes offline.
- Complete KYC. Lv.1 (government ID + selfie) unlocks main features and fiat deposit. Lv.2 raises limits further.
- Set your funds password. Separate from your login password; required for withdrawals.
- Fund your account via P2P (bank transfer, MoMo, ZaloPay, Pix, GoPay), card via Banxa or MoonPay, or on-chain deposit.
You're ready to trade or browse the copy-trading leaderboard.
Fees on Bitget#
Spot trading#
- Default: 0.100% maker / 0.100% taker.
- With BGB hold + "Pay fees in BGB" toggle: 20% discount โ 0.080% / 0.080%.
- VIP 1+ tiers unlock at $1M+ monthly volume or $50k+ asset balance.
Derivatives (USDT-M futures)#
- Default: 0.020% maker / 0.060% taker.
- Funding rate every 8 hours on perps (passed between long and short holders).
Copy trading#
- Follower side: 10% of net profits go to the lead trader. Spot fees and derivative fees apply normally on the mirrored trades themselves.
- Lead trader side: no platform charge to be listed; profit share with followers is the income source.
Other costs#
- Card buys via Banxa, MoonPay, Mercuryo: ~2-3.5% on top.
- P2P: no platform fee โ seller's spread only.
- On-chain withdrawals: pass-through gas + small platform markup.
Is Bitget safe?#
Bitget's security and solvency posture:
- Founded 2018. No publicly disclosed major hack of customer funds.
- $300M+ Protection Fund disclosed on-chain. Designed to cover unexpected losses (a hack, a flash event, an extreme liquidation cascade).
- Monthly Merkle-tree Proof-of-Reserves. You can verify your account is included in the snapshot.
- Cold storage majority custody with multi-sig.
- Multi-jurisdiction licensing: Lithuania VASP, Australia AUSTRAC, El Salvador BSP, Poland VASP, Seychelles registration.
- 2FA mandatory for trading, withdrawal, and API creation.
That said:
- Bitget is custodial. You don't hold the keys.
- The Protection Fund is helpful but not unlimited โ extreme black-swan loss could still impact users.
- Like any centralized exchange, Bitget can freeze accounts at regulator request. Rare, but not zero.
Rule of thumb: Bitget is fine for active trading and amounts you'd accept losing. For multi-year holdings, move to a hardware wallet.

- Choose Bybit for the cleanest derivatives UX.
- Choose OKX if you want CEX and on-chain in a single app.

Bitget-specific features worth knowing#
- Copy trading (the flagship). Industry-leading by copy-trader count. Browse leaderboard filters (drawdown, win rate, follower count) and allocate a starting capital to each lead trader. Their next trades mirror to your account proportionally.
- Bitget Wallet (separate app). Self-custody wallet supporting 100+ chains. Available standalone; not bundled into the exchange app.
- Bitget Earn. Flexible savings, fixed-term, dual-asset, and on-chain staking.
- Bitget Launchpad. Token sales via BGB subscription. Historical record is mixed โ see the launchpad section in our exchange product simulator.
- Pre-market trading. Trade IOUs of upcoming token listings before live launch.
Common Bitget mistakes to avoid#
- Wrong network on deposit. USDT on Tron vs ERC-20 vs BSC vs Solana are different chains. Match networks exactly or lose funds.
- Copying high-leverage lead traders without understanding their drawdown history. A 300% return looks great until you read the 70% intra-month drawdown. Sort by max drawdown, not return โ most blow-up traders have a great few months before they zero out.
- Treating copy trading as passive. You still own the risk. Lead trader can blow up overnight; copy trading does not pause for sleep.
- Skipping the anti-phishing code. Bitget lets you set a personal phrase that appears in every real email. Set it. Any "Bitget" email without it is fake.
- Leaving long-term holdings on Bitget. Active trading: fine. Multi-year HODL: move to self-custody.
Bottom line#
Bitget is the right pick for users specifically interested in copy trading โ it leads the category by both lead-trader count and follower capital โ and a solid all-rounder for derivatives with competitive fees and a publicly disclosed Protection Fund. If you're not specifically here for copy trading, the choice between Bitget, Bybit, and OKX comes down to which app's UX you prefer. Sign up with 2FA, set the anti-phishing code, sort lead traders by drawdown (not return), and move long-term holdings off-platform.
